After parting ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons and drafting rookie quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, the consensus was that the New England Patriots would have a rough season during the 2024 campaign, as the rebuilding process had officially begun with former player Jerod Mayo now at the helm as the team’s new leader on the sideline.
Eleven games into the 2024 NFL season, the Patriots are sporting a record of 3-8, which isn’t all that surprising, considering the team’s situation and the current start of the roster in New England.
However, the team has gotten some promising play out of their rookie quarterback ever since he was named the starter over veteran Jacoby Brissett earlier in the season.
On Sunday, Maye kept the Patriots competitive against a good Los Angeles Rams team, giving Sean McVay’s squad all they could handle on the road at Gillette Stadium.
After the game, McVay gave Maye some high praise, as he believes the young quarterback has a bright future with the Patriots moving forward via Carlos Talks Pats.
“He looks like a stud… You can see the impact that he has on his teammates. The way people talk about him here. He looks like he’s gonna be a special player for a long time and he gave us fits today,” McVay said.
#Rams HC Sean McVay was very complimentary of #Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye:

Even though there’s not much to get excited about when it comes to the Patriots this year, Maye definitely has shown there’s some light at the end of the tunnel for the storied franchise as he continues to improve from week to week.
In the loss against the Rams, Maye threw for 282 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while also running for 27 yards on the ground.
